Owner and Principal Designer

Orooj started Urbanhaus Designs in 2018 after years of informal experience in interior design, renovation, and construction.  Prior to finding her niche as an interior designer, she had over a decade-long career as a pediatrician at one of the top children’s hospitals in the country.  What began as a creative outlet after purchasing her first home in 2009 turned into a passion that led to several design and construction projects.  “The real impetus to create a formal design business was when my friends started referring me to their friends.  Through referrals I was helping strangers and realized I had the opportunity to start a design studio. I started by taking on one project at a time until I made the leap to full-time designer.” She takes a client-centered approach, pays attention to every detail, and has a special interest in wellness in design.  Orooj has received multiple Houzz service awards and was named by Brightec as one the top 10 interior designers in Tuscaloosa. She is a “transplant Northerner” who relocated to Birmingham, Alabama in 2015, where she resides with her husband. When she is not designing, she is rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers, cycling or hiking in Oak Mountain, or enjoying one of the many fabulous restaurants this city has to offer.
